Since 1992, Charlie Wilshire has owned and operated The Merry Craftsman, a general contracting business specializing in home remodeling projects. For 33 years, Charlie Wilshire has designed layouts, plans, drafts, and models of construction projects. These projects include building an entire house, performing exterior restorations, kitchen and bath remodels, mosaic entries, and artistic installations of granite, marble, and stonework. Mr. Wilshire has completed projects for clients across Oregon. In 2001, he launched a small property management business in the Eugene, Oregon area, which is still in operation today.
In addition to his work in home restoration and property management, Mr. Wilshire taught middle and high school for 14 years. He first taught language arts and social studies at McFarland Alternative School in 2003, assisting students who were learning and emotionally disabled. In 2005, he became a language arts and drama teacher at Central Linn High School, where he taught grades eight through 12.
Northwest Youthcorps Outdoor High School hired him in 2006 to teach language arts to students in grades nine through 12. In 2014, he moved to Kennedy High School, where he again taught language arts. For a short period in 2017, he served as a long-term guest teacher at Agnes Stewart Middle School, where he taught language arts and social studies.
In his free time, he spends time backpacking in the Sierra Nevada. He has also hiked in Spain and Portugal, including completing the Camino de Santiago (also known as the Portuguese Way) on two occasions. He also enjoys reading historical fiction and non-fiction on various topics.
